The gas tank was rusted though along the bottom in the back. Looking into the filler, the front part of the tank was rust free. Perhaps the bike sat for an extended period with about a 1/4″ of water in it.

My TY175 tanks in at least this condition, although it still holds fuel. At a cross roads regarding fixing or having a friend manufacture an aluminum tank. I shudder thinking about new aluminum fenders and tank tumbling down a rocky hill due to my poor trials riding skills.
When I picked up this TY, I also got a 1974 Honda 125 SL? Complete except for a rear axle. 150.00 plated and has the original mirrors.
What a great job. Can you please tell me me what the epoxy coat you used is called? Also, did you have issue fiberglassing on the metal?

Hi Patrick,
I used Caswell tank liner epoxy. After adding the reinforcement fiberglass, I used the rest of the tank liner kit on the inside of the tank. The Caswell stuff is great. Didn’t have any trouble getting the epoxy to stick. The pictures don’t show it, but I roughed up the metal with 80 grit sand paper before applying the epoxy.
